01/23: Call for consultancy on Sea Turtles conservation in the Mediterranean

Caretta caretta ©SPARAC, Artescienza

The consultancy aims to develop a regional review of available data on stranded sea turtles, and to support the implementation of the twinning programme of sea turtle rescue centres.

The survival of the marine turtle in the Mediterranean Sea requires a continued response based on international collaboration, including shared protocols and joint conservation activities.

Under the Barcelona Convention, the Action Plan for the Conservation of the Marine Turtle in the Mediterranean, updated in 2021, calls on Contracting Parties to strengthen data collection on stranded turtles through national stranding networks and care centres. So far, no evaluation of the data collected by all the Mediterranean turtle stranding networks has been made.

In this context, SPA/RAC is launching a call for consultancy for the elaboration of a regional review of available data on stranded marine turtles in the Mediterranean, and to have support in the implementation of the twinning programme of sea turtle rescue centres.
