Census of wintering waterbirds in Tunisia

RAC/SPA has supported the organization of the census of waterbirds wintering in Tunisia carried-out by the Association « Les Amis des Oiseaux » (AAO). This mission has been also supported by the "Environmental General Authority of Libya" (EGA) and Vogelbescherming (VBN).

 The census was conducted from January the 14^th to the 23^rd, 2012.

 Libyan colleagues representing the EGA and the "Libyan Birdwatcher Society" as well as two international experts participated in this mission in addition to participants of the AAO, and its regional departments of Cap Bon, Sfax and Gafsa, and the General Directorate of Forests (GDF). During this campaign, wetlands in 15 governorates, from north to south of Tunisia, were covered by 23 people divided on three field teams.

The first results of this census were presented at an information workshop held on January 24^th, 2012. RAC/SPA took part to this workshop and presented the activities carried out under the Action Plan for the conservation of bird species listed in Annex II of the SPA/BD Protocol.
