The ACCOBAMS Permanent Secretariat, in collaboration with SPA/RAC, is organizing a Regional Workshop on the implementation of the ACCOBAMS Survey Initiative, from the 3rd to the 5th of October 2017, in Tunis

The “ACCOBAMS Survey Initiative” (ASI) is a pilot initiative aimed at establishing an integrated and coordinated cetacean monitoring system throughout the area of the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and contiguous Atlantic area (ACCOBAMS).

This initiative is conducted by the ACCOBAMS Secretariat, in coordination with the riparian countries and in line with their commitments related to the implementation of European and regional policies, in particular the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD, EU) and the Ecosystem Approach process (EcAp, UNEP/MAP).

In this context, the ACCOBAMS Permanent Secretariat, in collaboration with the Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected Areas (SPA/RAC), is organizing a Regional Workshop dedicated to the implementation of the ACCOBAMS Survey Initiative, from the 3rd to the 5th of October 2017, in Tunis.

This event aims to prepare the 2018 cetacean monitoring campaign, and to assess all the implementation aspects of the initiative. More specifically, the scientific, technical, administrative and logistical preparation of the monitoring campaign, which will take place in the summer of 2018 throughout the Mediterranean basin, will be examined during the workshop.

Representatives from all partner countries, members of the ASI Contact Group, are participating in the event in order to facilitate the implementation of the ASI project in their respective territories.
