In the framework of the 30th Annual Conference of the European Cetacean Society (ECS), ACCOBAMS in collaboration with RAC/SPA will organize a training workshop for Marine Mammal Observers (MMO) and Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) Operators.

The main objective of the workshop is to contribute to better protect cetaceans during seismic operations in the ACCOBAMS area (Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and contiguous Atlantic area) and to increase certificate efficiency.

During the training module, tools under development for cetaceans monitoring will be presented, and the role of relevant actors (scientific, political, industrial, MMO and PAM operators...) and links among them will be discussed.

The specific objectives of the training are:

  1. to further develop practical and relevant tools,
  2. to identify ways for these tools to be accepted by relevant bodies and organizations,
  3. to learn from best practices to reach high quality training standards.

The workshop programme is available HERE.
