The SPA/RAC is launching a call for consultation to develop a Post-2020 National Strategy for Marine and Coastal Protected Areas (MCPAs) and Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) in Libya.

The National strategy on MCPAs in Libya being non-aligned with the new global targets, there is a clear need to update it to adapt with the current challenges, especially in harmony with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework along with the Barcelone Convention Post-2020 SAPBIO and Post-2020 MCPAs/OECMs strategy and the needs for countries to strengthen their capacities to meet their global targets by 2030.

This initiative is supported by the GEF-funded MedProgramme Child Project 3.1 “Management Support and Expansion of Marine Protected Areas in Libya”.
