Within the framework of EU-funded regional project "Towards achieving the good environmental status of the Mediterranean Sea and coast through an ecologically representative and efficiently managed and monitored network of marine protected areas" (“IMAP-MPA Project”), UNEP/MAP-SPA/RAC is jointly collaborating with the Ministry of Environment (MoE) to elaborate a management plan of the coastal and marine area of Shash in the Gulf of Sirt in Libya.

The coastal and marine area of Shash in the Gulf of Sirt in Libya is among the potential sites listed in the framework of the joint work carried out by the Ministry of Environment and SPA/RAC with a view to elaborate a management and improve the effective management and preservation of its terrestrial, coastal and marine heritage components.

The mission to be undertaken would allow to analyse the interactions, covering all aspects, of the site with its environments, both near and further away, and propose not only a management plan containing actions for the protection, valorisation and the preservation of the Reserve but also modalities and mechanisms for the partnership and the participation of the local stakeholders in the future management and promotion of the protected area.
